I’ve lost track of how often I’ve seen a well-educated, intelligent business owner write something that very few people will actually understand. This happens frequently in industries that have their own “language” (think: IT, insurance, medical, government, etc.). The longer you work in an industry and surround yourself in the vocabulary used, the harder it can be to converse with those who are not familiar with your world. This is because you become so familiar with your industry that you forget what other people don’t automatically know.
I have personal experience with this phenomena, as my husband is in the military. I often don’t understand what it is he’s telling me, and when chatting with friends, using what military-speak I do know, I’m regularly met with blank stares.
I can help reduce the number of blank stares your customer/client gives you.
