Life Writing for Groups
Tell your story surrounded by other life writers
Some people thrive off the energy of others. If you’re feeling a bit unsure about writing (and sharing) your life experiences, you might want to consider a group environment.
Benefits of being part of a group
-
Accountability: Studies have shown that humans have a higher chance of achieving their goals when they’re accountable to others; being a part of a life writing group provides that accountability
-
Empthay: Receive it and give it! Life writing can be an emotional process; your soul and mind will benefit by being around others going through a similar process
-
More heads are better: While I have years of experience coaching writers and editing life writing, I fully believe in the value of multiple perspectives, learnings, and tips—maybe something that has helped one person could also help you!
-
Less 1:1 attention: Some people are uncomfortable in the spotlight; learning in a group environment allows you to gain the knowledge and skills you need, but not necessarily become overwhelmed by being the main focus.
-
Connection: Feeling a part of a group solidifies a sense of unity, belonging, and purpose; connection can also help us achieve our goals.
-
Affordability: Group settings offer a cost benefit.
Options for Group Life Writing
1. Join my Life Writing for Groups Class: I offer this 6-week class a few times a year. By signing up, you’ll join a cohort of 5-6 other life writers from all over the world. Receive guidance from both myself, as well as other writers who are on a similiar journey as yourself. By the end of the 6 weeks, you’ll feel more empowered to tackle your life writing project—and you may have made a few new friends to boot! More information on my 6-week class can be found here.
2. Custom Life Writing Workshop: I offer customized life writing workshops for groups. Whether you’re an organization or you want to gather a group of friends together, I can guide you in your life writing journey. I can do in-person (I live in PEI, but I’m willing to travel throughout Canada) or virtual. I can do a one-day intensive session or I can break up the workshop into smaller, more digestable chunks. Reach out today if you’d like to chat with me about a life writing workshop for your group.
I learned a lot about the important elements of memoir writing, as well as practical tips on time management, goal-setting, beta readers, and publication.
